Who's going and what's happening?  Reg opened up over the weekend and I totally missed it.

General Discussion / American Turkey Day
« on: November 25, 2016, 07:11:16 AM »
The holiday is more specific to Americans but how has everyone's weekend been so far? Been spending more time with family this year and helping around the house before going to my brother's and sharing in the in-laws cooking and his collection of rare beers.

And now I'm waiting in line at a grocery store (have been for the last 4 hours) to get some Goose Island Bourbon County. The rest of the weekend is gonna be equally busy but less tedious.

General Discussion / Secret Annual Gift Exchanger Thing
« on: November 07, 2016, 09:41:50 AM »
Hey hey!  I just realized it was November and that will tie into the next month.  Anyway, for the past couple of years we have done a secret Santa gift exchange thing.  Gifts can be funny, personal, and most importantly $20 or less.

Anyway if you want to be a part of it this year, it's a 2-step process.

1) Fill out the following template of your favorite things and post in this thread:
Quote
Books:
RPGs:
Movies:
Videogames:
Interests:

2) Send me a PM with your mailing information and whether or not you are willing to ship internationally.

If we have enough participants (which I'm gonna call 5 or more) by December 1st 5th I will use a completely random system to sort participants and the gift-giving cycle will begin.

General Discussion / Introduction Thread
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:20:46 PM »
Hey I just realized we didn't have one of these so oops.  Anyway let's cover the basics.

Who: I'm Matt.  I founded the podcast back in early 2011 and have been more or less running it since.
What: I'm podcaster/streamer/furry/crockpot extraordinaire.  I like the music of John Roderick, Johnathan Coulton, John Flansbury and John Linnell. . . basically any band that is led by someone named John (except weirdly for John Lennon).
When: I'm 29 but most of those things happened recently.  My taste in music and games was wildly different in college (a lot more anime and AAA productions)
Where: Chi-town baby.  Go cubs (although I live on the south side).
Why: I don't know.  Probably a lack of attention in grade school and now I need constant validation from anyone?  Take your pick.

If you want to introduce yourself this thread is great for that.  Maybe follow this format, maybe don't.  I'm not your dad.

General Discussion / Animorphs

Yeah, I started reading a book for grade schoolers at 28 years old.  What of it?  YOU WANNA GO?  YOU WANNA FUCKIN GO MATE?!

No but for real I am impressed with how much complexity is in these 100-something page books for children.  It's a very easily digestible story that is a good primer for like what MaOCT should be like.  Every story of these sad traumatized teens involves some kind of mundane emotional grounding that provides some relatability to a really bizarre setting and reminds us of real stakes while also these children transform into tigers and fight an alien invasion every story.

I'm like 8 books deep into the series (9 if you count Megamorphs but nobody counts the first Megamorphs) and it continues to find fresh ways to change up the stakes in both senses while slowly compounding on canon that exists outside of the basic plot of each story.

Announcements / Site Outage
« on: August 02, 2016, 10:51:27 AM »
For those who do not follow the Twitter feed, the site was down for about 12 hours as site5 conducted some emergency maintenance and took a bunch of servers offline.  Again, this is the first time I've seen this happen in the entire time they've been hosting us so I do not expect it to happen again anytime soon.

Announcements / The Drunk and Ugly Community AP Site is Live!
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:22:05 AM »
Hey everybody!  It took a while but I finally set up a proper Wordpress for the Community Actual Play: http://community.drunkandugly.com/

I've gone to the effort of archiving most of the things presently posted in the Community AP thread to this site.  If you want to post community AP recordings, just PM me with your email address and preferred username and I'll set up an author account for you.  If you have posts that have been migrated to the community site, I will update them so that your account is the author.

We cannot presently host media files for you (we have enough stuff on our server right now that our host is getting kind of mad at us), but over the past couple years people have hosted content on Dropbox and Archive.org.  In my archiving of the older community posts I found that any site that allows for direct linking can be used with powerpress.

This message is repeated in the community AP boards with some basic instructions on posting but I figured I would also put an announcement here to make it more visible.

Community Actual Play / How to Post Things to the Community Site
« on: June 13, 2016, 07:04:04 PM »
Hey everybody!  It took a while but I finally set up a proper Wordpress for the Community Actual Play: http://community.drunkandugly.com/

I've gone to the effort of archiving most of the things presently posted in the Community AP thread to this site.  If you want to post community AP recordings, just PM me with your email address and preferred username and I'll set up an author account for you.  If you have posts that have been migrated to the community site, I will update them so that your account is the author.

If you're unfamiliar with using Wordpress and Blubrry Powerpress, making a post is easy.

  • In the sidebar, go to Posts > Add New
  • Fill out the title and body of the post
  • In the "Podcast Episode" portion below the body, paste in a direct link to the mp3 file you are serving (from Dropbox or Archive.org or wherever you host).  This needs to go directly to the file you are linking or it will show up weird on the site
  • Fill out Category and Tag information (please limit categories and tags to the most relevant things) in the boxes on the right side
  • Set up your publishing options (aka whether you want to publish immediately or schedule)
  • That's it!  You're set up!

Show Discussion / Criticism and Comments
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:15:49 PM »
This is a thread for general show criticism.

We have a submission box available at http://drunkanduglysuggestions.tumblr.com/ask. Use this for any ideas, quick comments, or anonymous comments. Please don’t hold back here.

If you have a more personal or indepth critique come to the forums. The comment section is still available and under new Management. Our own Joshua “No Butt Stuff” Chichester will be around waiting to talk to everyone and anyone. Don’t worry, he may look mean, but he is a sweety.

Travis (or Sam) and I will be your go-to for any urgent questions or needs concerning the podcast. If you’re curious about posting schedules, if you want to know more about a campaign, have a concern, etc, come to us. We’ll be checking email at thedrunkandtheugly@gmail.com, checking comments on the actual play site, comments on the Let’s Play channel, and private messages here on the forum. We’re happy to talk to you and make sure your voice is being heard.

Travis (like every dog) loves attention. Please. Pet him. And also feed him treats and comments via skype: tgasque3 or a PM on the forums.

Also, for the foreseeable future, the Drunk and Ugly Patreon will cease. We want to thank those of you who backed the project and gave us money to help us do this thing we love doing. With the podcast restructuring and focusing on content creation, we’re stretched too thin to reliably give our backers the experience we have promised. This month’s rewards will be fulfilled, and the last round of submissions will be used to ensure the website and forums stay hosted through the year.

We’ll readress the Patreon system going forward, once we have the time and ability to properly devote to it.

Building this podcast going forward is going to take some hard work. We want your criticism; we need it to continue improving and growing. Your voices are important to us and we want to hear them. Help us, and together we can ensure that we are all proud of this podcast.
