From the text chat of Jon's Base Raider game, in the context of John Henry being the owner of the base.

Max: God is this the thor of this setting? "BY THE HAMMER OF JOHN HENRY!"
Luke: It's the blackploitation Thor

Beyond the Stellar Sphere / Re: [BtSS] Character Sheets
« on: September 30, 2016, 02:18:42 AM »
Name: Jesse Rison
Age: Twenty three
Species: Human
Homeland: Born on Terra Nova, currently residing on Mars in the Cheng complex.
Physical Description: Jesse is a slender man with long black hair and dark eyes. Sports a bright red trench coat that practically matches the rusty red of the Martian soil, and always carries a blade by his side. (The better to puncture a space suit with)
Personality: A go-getter, and not in a good way. He's an adrenaline junkie who wants fame and fortune, and isn't afraid to take it by force.

-History-
Jesse Riser (born Joshua McDowell) was born dirt poor on Terra Nova. The family had spent every last penny getting off the dying planet, but even as time passed their fortune never seemed to increase. Ever day seemed to be a struggle for them, and all he wanted was a path of his own to pave.

He thought that his ship had come in, both literally and metaphorically, when one of the Martian millionaires came to the station looking for servants. It seemed like a great opportunity. Living in the lap of luxury, even as a servant, was better than being stuck on Terra Nova for the rest of his life. He joined a large crew of able bodied men making their way back to Mars... But all that glitters is not gold.

Feeling uneasy during the flight, Joshua thought he would spy on his new employer, learn about them. He merely learned that the man didn't want servants. The richest men have the sickest tastes, and was planning on using them as toys for his own amusement. He decided he would take life into his own hands.

He caused a mutiny on the ship, vented their employer into space, and took control of the ship for himself. They made it to Mars, and took over a foreclosed compound that was apparently originally owned by someone named Chen.

Now, with a new name, a ship, a home, and a small fortune from the stolen credstick he got from his employer before tossing him out into space, Jesse plans on making his name and fortune known throughout the system as the biggest, baddest space pirate that will ever live.

-Proficiencies-
He is skilled with a blade, and is known for his infiltration skills. He can eavesdrop and lipread with the best of them as well, and has a certain gravitas which commands respect as a leader.
However, he is a glass cannon, and a loose cannon at that. Impulsive to a fault, he gets into fights he can probably win, but one good punch will have him on the ropes.

Tabletops and You / Myst themed FATE game: LFG
« on: September 14, 2016, 11:13:46 PM »
Hey there DnU forums! Recently I spontaneously managed to start putting together a group for a Skype game that should be running... Well, right now the schedule seems to be going for every other Friday or once a month on Fridays, depending on how schedules and just wanting more free Fridays works out.

The game we are looking at right now is Unwritten, which is a free FATE based game set in the universe of Myst and Uru. You know, that cool point and click adventure game with the books and the deep lore and all that cool stuff. It is a game based on exploration, solving mysteries, and discovering things in the universe. Your characters are proactive and competent, and not necessarily prone to direct violence.

Right now we've got myself as GM, with Nayt and... Well, two members who aren't currently on the new forums, I don't think. We're looking for one or two more players to round the group out. So if you're interested, check out the book and send me a message.

Ooooh, this will definitely be fun. I can't wait to see what convoluted stuff groupthink comes up with.

For my one thing to add, I'll add a  Yes. I'm going to say "Sky Pirates." Because Sky Pirates are awesome.

((That being said, if I may add a No, even though you asked us to do only one... If you do the Colonization one, could you add "The worst of the horrible shit real world imperialists did to natives" to the No list? Not sure if I'm in the mood to listen to Microscope turn into Dog Eat Dog.))

Tabletops and You / Re: 7th Sea Second Edition
« on: September 06, 2016, 08:33:49 PM »
Let me put my opinion in an anecdote.

In order to test out the new mechanics, I made a character. After making the character, I was very happy, and was excited for any game of second edition I would encounter.

I tried making the character in the first edition of 7th sea and felt underpowered and was not wanting to play the character.

Other than that, the one concern I have about the mechanics is this: With a particularly crappy roll, you literally could lose the ability to even act at all. In a dramatic scene (which, seems like a weird thing to do a long term roll for) you could hypothetically not get any raises and therefore literally not be able to do anything of significance. So that's the one issue I have.

Also, eat a parcel of penises Nayt.

Tabletops and You / Re: Random Game Plots
« on: August 03, 2016, 02:00:04 AM »
Setting: The Shangri La

Plot: The Magic Goes Away

Narrative Device: It Was A Gift

Hero: Barbarian Hero

Villain: Terrible Trio

Character as Device: Not In Front Of The Kid

Characterization Device: Adaptation Personality Change

I actually have a somewhat coherent idea.

In ancient times, in the magical city of Shangri La, the tribal people of the land talk about a great war that happened a generation ago. Now, the final scars of the war are seen, and it turns out the great evil has tainted the source of magic for the city, and soon magic will be leaving the world. There is one way to stop it, though.

Our protagonists are given the great task of taking a young child, the only person who can cleanse the source and protect the magic of the land. They must escort her to the true heroes, the protagonists the great epics from the war. Unfortunately, things don't quite measure up. These old heroes are greedy sociopaths, who adventured for fame and fortune. They have grown fat and lazy, and are far from heroic. Will our escorts rise up and become the new heroes? Or will the world fall apart and slip between their finger?

I actually have one that I can't believe I forgot.

After two failed campaigns (one just because we did one session and moved on despite interest, and one because nobody knew what the were doing in the game) I have yet to full sate this itch.

I've really wanted to be in a full season of World Wide Wrestling. Creative, Talent, whichever role is needed, I've really wanted this ever since I got a taste of the game.

I'm cool with using Google Hangouts, though we could do the audacity thing too if you want. I'm down for whatever.

Golden Sky Stories is really interesting, but everything I hear about Fellowship makes me so excited. I'd love to try that game so hard.

Looks good so far, but I think you should have one more refresh.
Alright, I'll redo the math and see if I'm correct. Thank you.

Here is my character. The only questions I have are if you think the flaws are rated right. I'll have to remath if not, but I'm cool with that.

Also still gotta do the "Crossover Adventure" and my final aspect.

Oh, and I almost forgot my most recent one:

Overwatch setting with Spirit of the Century (or maybe FATE Core, if stunts are too hard to deal with) rules.
